Class Descriptions

ADULT DANCE (Ages 16 & older)
NSPAC offers classes for the busy adult. Our drop-in feature allows you to come when you can. No registration is required. NSPAC provides a 'judgement-free' environment where all are encourage to just move. All levels and experiences are WELCOME! The only requirement is being able to make that 1 hour just about YOU!

ADULT LATIN DANCE
This is not a ballroom class so no partner is required! Come learn club-style Latin dance and get a fun cardio workout! Drop-In Rate is $15 per class

ADULT BALLET
Our Adult Ballet class will introduce you to the finer nuances of ballet. Come to class for a great stretch and core work! Drop-In Rate is $15 per class

ACRO DANCE (Ages 5 & older)
* See Tumble Tots for Age 2.9 - 4
Our Acro Dance class seamlessly blends classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements, is centered on fundamental acrobatic technique. To increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, timing, body awareness, self-discipline, and confidence. We will focus on learning not just the technique, but also what muscles and flexibility are needed to execute that technique. NSPAC uses the Acrobatic Arts curriculum.

BALLET (Ages 3 & older)
Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. It teaches discipline, focus, and grace to all dancers. Students of all ages will taught correct placement and ballet terminology. Placement is determined by the Director.

BROADWAY BABIES (Ages 4-7)
Broadway Babies is the beginning theatre exploration. Students will use costumes, props, and theatre games to create their own skits. Class runs in 10-week sessions and does not perform in our annual recital.

BROADWAY BOUND (Ages 7-13)
Broadway Bound students will work together to perform an original play including musical numbers. Together they will creates costumes, props, and scenery. Class runs in 10-week sessions and does not perform in our annual recital.

   Spring, 2018: Mar 22 - May 31

CONTEMPORARY (Ages 11 & older)
Our Contemporary Dance class is for students with ballet and jazz training. Contemporary draws on modern dance techniques as well as newer philosophies of movement that depart from classical dance techniques by altogether omitting structured form and movement. Requires ballet be taken concurrently.

HIP HOP (Ages 5 & older)
Hip Hop is a street-born form of dance that incorporates urban style.

JAZZ (Ages 5 & older)
Jazz is an energetic class with a variety of styles and music. Jazz combines solid dance technique with fun and challenging combinations.

LYRICAL (Ages 8 & older)
Lyrical has its primary basis in ballet, combining the many technical elements of classical ballet with aspects of jazz and contemporary dance. It is typically considered a sub-category of jazz and/or contemporary dance. Lyrical dance is expressive focused on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. Requires ballet be taken concurrently.

MINI MOVERS (Ages 3 & 4)
Mini Movers is designed to encourage a child’s natural movement and muscle development through music, creative songs, and dance. Classes run in 10-week sessions and does not perform in our annual recital.

MODERN (Ages 11+)
Modern is a dance style that focuses on a dancer's own interpretations instead of structured steps, as in traditional ballet dancing. Modern dancers favor movements derived from the expression of their emotions and moods to create their work.  

MOMMY & ME (Ages 12-35 Months)
Our Mommy & Me class is an opportunity to spend one-on-one time with your little one to bond and explore singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Class runs in 10-week sessions and does not participate in our annual recital.

POINTE
Pointe class is for students who are more serious about dance, who have had a good amount of ballet training, and is the highest level of training at NSPAC. Many factors determine when a student is ready for pointe. Please discuss this with your ballet teacher. Pre-Pointe Note: those participating in pre-pointe need the following equipment for class: jump rope, towel, 2.5 lb ankle weights, 32 oz can, yoga block.

TAP (Ages 4 & older)
Tap dancing is a fantastic way to improve rhythm and coordination. It adds the element of sound so we teach our students how to count sounds. Students learn to make clear, correct sounds.

TECHNIQUE (Ages 8 & older)
Our Technique class includes conditioning, core strengthening, and the technical aspects of leaps, jumps, turns, and other advanced skills. The student develops balance, strength, elevation, and body alignment.

TRIPLE THREAT (Ages 10 & older)
Our Triple Threat class brings together the art of acting, singing and dancing for our musical theatre students. The class is to strengthen each of the elements to create a well-rounded Triple Threat performer. Class runs in 10-week sessions and will not perform in our annual recital.

TUMBLE TOTS (Ages 2.9 - 4)
Tumble Tots an introduction to the world of acro. We will use rhythmic games, props, and floor work to work on coordination and flexibility.

A Note About Shoes:
Be sure to purchase non marking soles.
Dance shoes are not to be worn outside, and no dyed shoes are allowed in the studio.
